My Background and Interest in Graphic Arts.
|
For many years I have been a biomedical researcher, and as such I was quite often enlisted to work on the graphic elements for scientific publications. In doing this work I learned a great deal, and gained familiarity with many graphics applications such as the Adobe and Corel Graphic Suites and especially ACD Systems [Link] technical graphics application Canvas X (Macintosh) which is a completely integrated environment for illustration, page layout, imaging, presentations, and Web publishing. The Canvas software is especially useful working with vector objects, images, text, and imported graphics without having to switch to other applications. In my experience, this software is the most versatile application I have ever had the pleasure to use. I enjoyed working with Canvas X so much I found myself purchasing a copy so I could work at home and even play around with it in the creation of graphics for my own enjoyment and amusement. In high school, back in the dark ages before CAD, I took three years of technical drawing / architecture classes. Somehow this sparked an interest in technical drawing and I have an affinity for charts, maps, architectural drawings, historical drawings, etc... The following pages are a representation of some of the drawings I have produced and are railroad related as I have an interest in the historical aspects of this transportation mode. I have more technical drawings in my collection and have only presented those dealing with the historic Saranac Lake Union Depot, the iconic Hudson locomotive, and the luxury trains they were associated with during the 1930's and 1940's. Also, the sample drawings in this portfolio are at a much lower resolution that the original vector graphic files, which can easily be enlarged to poster sizes with excellent quality and detail. Only the Saranac Lake Union Depot drawings have links to higher resolution versions. Below are some examples of a project I started but haven't completed for scaled drawings of an Adirondack Guideboat in a vector graphic file format.
